Minister in the Prime Minister's Department DS Dr Wee Ka Siong has been awarded the prestigious Nanyang Distinguished Alumni Award by Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Dr Wee, who is also MCA Deputy President, is the only non-Singaporean citizen to have received the award. Dr Wee had also previously received the Nanyang Alumni Achievement Award in 2012.
In a ceremony held in Singapore, Dr Wee was conferred the award by Singapore's acting education minister Ong Ye Kung in recognition of his success in the Malaysian political arena and his stalwart public service. The a ward is the highest honour bestowed upon of the alumni of NTU. Dr Wee in a Facebook post, wrote that he was grateful for the recognition despite leaving NTU 20 years ago,
23 years ago, I have to go alone. Singapore studies, fighting for ideals; 20 years ago, I completed a master's degree and returned to the motherland. When received singapore nanyang technological university, Master's admission letter, the joy of the family were on father, particularly pleased and filled with expectation of facial expressions, are still imprinted in my heart.
Thanks for the nanyang technological university, all this time, let me have the opportunity to experience the baptism of top education, also made me today. For being awarded the "Distinguished Alumni" Highest Honors, I feel so delighted, also thanks to the alma mater with sure, after 20 years, Alma mater still care and love, let me warm.
The award recognises the accomplishments of alumni who have gained national, regional or international distinction as outstanding exponents of their chosen fields. For the record, Dr Wee obtained his Master's degree in Traffic Engineering at the NTU School of Civil and Structural Engineering in 1996.
