Sejarah bangsanya yang lena

Ingatlah

Wahai bangsaku
Jangan mudah lupa lagi
Kerana perjuanganmu belum selesai...

0 Issue On Guideline on 'Lipstick' in Kelantan

The Star, Wednesday June 25, 2008

Council gets a lot of 'lip' stick

KUALA LUMPUR: Women's groups are again outraged that Kelantan has issued directives on dressing for women.

The latest is the Kota Baru Municipal Council's circular asking Muslim women not to use heavy lipstick nor wear high-heels as they could lead to immoral activities.

“Again and again and again, they are singing the same old song. It is so sad that again they are telling women what to wear and not to wear,” said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen.

“They tell women not to wear lipstick and heels because it will incur unnecessary attention. Are you saying men are that easily attracted and that women are supposed to dress according to what men dictate?” she questioned.

Sisters-in-Islam programme manager Norhayati Kaprawi expressed outrage that the same tune was being sung despite PAS’ promise to drop their Islamic agenda as part of Pakatan Rakyat.

“Why is it that women are very often made victims of moral policing? Even women in tudung wear lipstick. Does this mean they are immoral?

“What is so un-Islamic about wearing high-heels or lipstick?

“Why can’t the Kelantan government concentrate on more important matters such as cleanliness or eradicating poverty?” she asked.

Women’s Aid Organisation executive director Ivy Josiah said it was a recurring nightmare as “this is not the first time that the state is imposing controls on women’s dress, lipstick or hair”.

Women activist Maria Chin Abdullah said: “How are they going to explain children or grandmothers being raped? They do not wear high-heels or lipstick, nor do they ask to be raped yet it happens.”

In Kota Baru, MPKB clarified that remarks on lipstick and high-heel shoes in its circular in May were only meant to encourage Muslim women to observe the Islamic dress code.

Its public relations director Azman Mohd Daham said the circular was merely a guideline.

“No action will be taken if they wear thick make-up or high-heel shoes,” he told journalists.

State Women Affairs Committee chairman Wan Ubaidah Wan Omar was reported to have said that she supported the circular and asked why women should enslave themselves to attract men by wearing high-heels and excessive lipstick.

Cucu Tok Selampit: What I see from the issue is it is just a guideline, not merely a regulations or act that cannot be breach. What is Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen and Sisters-in-Islam programme manager Norhayati Kaprawi said is out of context. What is Kelantan State Government is going to implement is for the good of the people. To prove that I provide to all of us a research made by the independent lab test initiated by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (Click here for link), and let me quote part of their FAQ:

Q: Does lipstick really contain lead?

A: According to independent lab tests initiated by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, yes, some lipsticks available for sale in 2007 contain lead. The report, “A Poison Kiss,” names the brands tested and the levels of lead found in them. More than half of 33 top-brand lipsticks tested (61%) contained detectable levels of lead, with levels ranging from 0.03 to 0.65 parts per million (ppm). One-third of the lipsticks exceeded the 0.1 ppm FDA lead limit for candy – a standard established to protect children from directly ingesting lead. Among the brands tested found to have the highest lead levels were L’Oreal, Cover Girl and Christian Dior – showing that the more expensive brands are no safer than drugstore brands.

Q: Is just a little bit of lead really harmful?

A: The most recent scientific studies indicate that there is no safe level of lead – no amount of exposure is without harm. Lead is a proven neurotoxin that can cause learning, language and behavioral problems. Lead is also linked to infertility and miscarriage. Pregnant women and young children are particularly vulnerable to exposure because lead easily crosses the placenta and enters the fetal brain, where it interferes with normal development. Lead does not break down in the body, but builds up over a lifetime of exposures.

My sincere request, my honorable minister, my fellow Sister-in-Islam (most of them do not wear 'tudung', talk Islam but do not preach Islam), do your homework first before going to the press!!

0 The Biggest Denial Syndrom

Najib's Denial

Datuk Seri Najib Razak dismissed Raja Petra Kamarudin’s statutory declaration linking his wife and two others to the murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaaribuu as “total lies, fabrication and total garbage.”

Abdullah's Denial

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister came to Najib’s defence. Abdullah said he had not received such a military intelligence report and that it was unacceptable for Raja Petra to make such a claim,

Khairy's Denial

Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin has denied that he is in possession of a military intelligence report on the murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaaribuu. He said the allegation against him in Raja Petra Kamarudin’s statutory declaration of June 18 was “malicious” because it suggested that he (Khairy) was concealing knowledge of a crime.

Cucu Tok Selampit: Our past experience, whenever these Barang Naik (BN) leaders talked nonsense and denied every thing we asked, then there will be an equal and opposite direction (Newton Theory) of what they have done or what they will do. I don't want to clarify further on this issue as it may define as contempt of court. However, the analogy is simple. If my subordinate did something bad or against the law, am I not aware about those things? Maybe I am so naive!

Shaariibuu's Hopes

Mongolian Dr Shaariibuu Setev wants the allegations that three individuals including a prominent woman were present at the scene of his daughter’s murder to be “thoroughly investigated”.

He called the information provided by Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin in a statutory declaration as “serious evidence”.

“We have to have it investigated. We cannot leave it as it is.

“I would like to meet Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to clarify the evidence, and know more about the three persons mentioned in the declaration, especially the prominent woman,” he said through Mongolian interpreter Enkhjargal Tsetsgee in a press conference held by lawyer Karpal Singh here yesterday.

Cucu Tok Selampit: I pity you Sir .... but this is Malaysia. Malaysia Boleh!!!!!!!
